Sunday Lane

Sunday Lane is a singer-songwriter native from Tulsa and now based out in Los Angeles. A huge thank you to Amanda Blide from LaFamos who told me about this amazing artist she works with. "A classically trained pianist, she writes articulate lyrics about social injustices in our society, young love, and growing up. Her soulful approach to songwriting expresses the depth of her musicianship."

Maybe you've already heard Sunday Lane's music as she had songs featured on One Tree Hill. That's the case for here song "The Reckless One" from her debut EP "Bring Me Sunshine" :

"Her debut EP, Bring Me Sunshine, displays her ability to write relatable songs with idiosyncratic phrases."

Sunday Lane - "Won't Go Back Down"

Sunday Lane has released a first full length album, "From Where You Are", in April 2012. I have first discovered Sunday Lane's music through this album. I've been captivated by her music from the 1st to the 11th song. There is something spellbinding in her songs. This album contains from beautiful  piano songs like "Painted Blue" or "Waltzing with Fire", to more pop/rock songs as the first single of the record "Little too Young".

Sunday Lane - "Little To Young"

Sunday Lane - "Painted In Blue"

"Bring Me Sunshine" and "From Where You Are" are both available on itunes.

Oscar

Oscar is a french band from Mayenne in west of France and made up of Aurélie Fauque (vocals/songwriter) and Rodrigue Sérot (Piano).

I had the chance to see them performing yesterday evening in quite magical place, as the show was in the ruins of a gallo-roman theatre. I didn't knew them before but I've really appreciated their style of music. Oscar can be described as what we called here artist with texts. Each song of Oscar tell a story, sometimes tender, sometimes funny or a bit caustic.  Some of their songs reminds me another french singer, Olivia Ruiz, by the style of music and also the tone of voice.

It's the first time I present french artists who sing in french, so I hope you'll like it. Unfortunately their songs can only be listen on Myspace. Click here to go to their page.

Young's Got Talent : Hillary Hand

Hillary Hand is a young singer-songwriter and pianist from Colorado Springs. She has been playing piano since the age of 6, it took her 17 years to put the pen to paper and write her first song.

"With lyrics that suggest a maturity usually reserved for those far older than Hillary, and arrangements that captivate, you can expect nothing short of brilliance from this artist in the years to come."

I found her thanks to noisetrade and after listening to her song during few seconds, I've been immediatly captivate by her voice. She has a particular and gorgeous tone of voice ! Her debut single "Take Me Away" is spellbinding song of whom you should quickly become addicted. This song is available for free on noistrade at the moment, so do yourself a favor and download/ share it.

Hillary Hand - "Take Me Away"

"Hillary Hand is tough to nail down. Listening to her music is like hearing the passing of the seasons in a 3 minute time frame. Her delicate and breathy vocals carry you in gently, and leave you in a pounding storm of instrumentation, harmonies, and aggressiveness. But she brings you through the experience so masterfully, that what should be a dizzying array of influences and sounds becomes a cohesive journey that you never want to stop revisiting."

The Spring Standards - "Heavy Home" (Official video)

The Spring Standards have released a video for their song "Heavy Home". This song is one of the song of their new album "Yellow//Gold" which is available here .

Interview : Sarah & Lindsay + July song

You already have the possibility to listen to Sarah & Lindsay's songs on the blog each month now and I've quickly become addicted to their 12in12 project. I thought that after some month of featured, it could be a good occasion for people to learn a little more about them and also to celebrate my 300th post. Sarah Williams and Lindsay George have kindly accepted to answer to my questions.

TID: Could you tell us few words to introduce yourself? How did you meet each other and how this amazing 12in12 project was born ?

LG: Sarah and I are both singer/songwriters based in Nashville, TN. We met circuiting the jazz scene here several years ago, and we have become very close friends since that day.
SW: We became friends by becoming workout buddies, and the rest is history! Haha, but seriously. 12in12 came about after we booked a Christmas show together at the end of last year. We realized how well our voices blend together and we decided to do a bit of a crazy project!

TID: One song for each month is an ambitious project. Where do you draw your inspiration for these songs ?

LG: Most of the song ideas come out of our various personal relationships - just whatever happens to be on our minds when we sit down to write.
SW: For example, the idea for the March song, "I'm Not Going Anywhere," came out of a conversation we had about our two early 1900s houses, and how we think they are haunted. So, we decided that day we would write a song about it!
LG: A big part of this project was our desire to write more songs in general, so we really have pushed ourselves to write, even on days when we aren't outrageously inspired.

TID: This week we gonna discover the song of July. What is this song about ? I saw the picture of the place where you filmed the video of this song. It seems to be a nice place.

LG: July's song is a love song for the season of summer in the state of Tennessee!
SW: We feel passionately about both, and we had a blast shooting the video at Percy Priest lake, which is a gorgeous lake outside of Nashville.

Sarah and Lindsay - Tennessee Summer

TID: Can we expect an album containing all the songs at the end of the year ?
SW: YES! We are going to do a limited pressing of the 12 songs, and then after that, we will release a selected 6 as an EP on iTunes.
LG: The records will be available on pre-order started in November on our website, and they will also be available at our release show(s).

TID: You both also have your solo careers as well as your duo. Isn’t it too hard to manage both?
LG: It's a balancing act, for sure, but I think Sarah and I are both such Type-A personalities (we love to PLAN and SCHEDULE things) that we are able to make it work.
SW: As friends, before we ever worked together, we each loved the other's music, and we continue to be really supportive of each other's solo careers. It's great to have a good friend and musical partner that you can bounce ideas off of and who is very encouraging.

TID: What are your projects for the months coming ? Do you have some shows ?
SW: Yes, we have a few shows lined up in Nashville in August and September, and really our main focus now is to finish the songs and get the record ready for December's release!

TID: The goal of the blog is to enable people to get to know indie artists. What are your favorite artists? What artists would you recommend to check out?
LG: We love some of our fellow Nashvillians...Check out: Molly Jewell, Lauren Homburg, Reed Pittman, Sam Hawksley, Ferrier, Caroline Batch...
SW: These are all people who we have played shows with or who have contributed their talents to our 12in12 project!

Tiquetonne

Tiquetonne is a franco-danish duo made up of Gabriela Anna Cieploch (Lead vocals) and William Haddad (guitar, harmonica, ukulele, back vocals) and is based in Paris. Gabriela and Will met each other in 2005 when Garbiela spent a semester in the same school as Will for her studies. The band has been created 5 years later when Gabriela has been back in France.

Tiquetonne has been performing in some of great parisian venues. Tiquetonne's influences go from classical pop, rock, folk, jazz music. A debut EP should be out September, 22th. You have already the possibility to listen to it on soundcloud.

THis EP contains 5 great songs. The music style correspond quite well to the kind of music I like : a good voice accompgnied by a nice acoustic melody. I believe a good voice and a guitar are often enough to make great songs. I think you should appreciate this EP.

Across Oceans

Across Oceans is a long term, cross continental collaboration between solo artists Cruz Gongora (backing vocals/guitars) and A Problem Like Maria (vocals).
