Introducing O.D.y.L

Today I would  like to introduce you to a young french singer songwriter O.D.y.L (for O[ver]. D[ose]. Y[our]. L[ife]) . If you are a regular reader of this blog, you know I rarely talk about artists from my own country... Maybe it's because I become more demanding in that case ...

O.D.y.L  is a project born in 2011 and spearheaded by the singer-songwriter Virginie Nourry. Her music style is a devastating rock of which the lyrics are sometimes somber, sometimes crude, sometimes incisive ... This mix works really well and let foresee a good career for O.D.y.L.

O.D.y.L - "C'était L'hiver"

After a first eponymous EP, O.D.y.L is working on her debut album which should be out at the end of the year. The first single "C'était L'hiver" is already available on itunes and has exceeded the 68 000 views on youtube in only 2 weeks.

O.D.y.L - "Rouge à Lèvre"

O.D.y.L - "Scalpel"

O.D.y.L - "Un Jour C'est Aujourd'hui"

Live @ No Man's Land - Part 2 : Kristyna Myles

Nearly a month ago, I told you about the show I went to see at a bar in Villeurbanne, France. Laura Esther has opened Kristyna Myles' show.

I get to know Kristyna's music since nearly two years ago thanks to Charlotte Gomes. I was really glad to have the opportunity to see Kristyna in live. It's quite rare when some of the artists I like and who featured on the blog come here.

Kristyna Myles - "Wouldn't Change A Thing"

The last time Kristyna went in France for a show was 3 years ago. She came here for 2 shows in may, one in Paris and one in Villeurbanne next to Lyon. The show was sucessful. Kristyna had known how to captivate her french audience.

Kristyna Myles - "Move On"

Her songs are great and Kristyna is even more amazing in a live performance. She performed old songs and songs from her forthcoming album called "Pinch Me Quick" which will be out later this year.

Kristyna Myles - "You've Changed"

You can find all the videos of the show on my youtube channel.

Live @ No Man's Land - Part 1 : Laura Esther

Last saturday, I went at No Man's Land, a really cool bar in a New Yorker bar style in Villeurbanne next to Lyon to see Laura Esther and Kristyna Myles performing.

Laura Esther is a young singer songwriter and student in music based in Villeurbanne, in the south east of France. She writes songs rather in a soul music style. Laura  has opened Kristyna's show with 4 songs : 2 orignials and 2 covers.

I've already had the occasion to see Laura performing last year with Jc Villafan so I was eager to see her again and to discover a bit more her musical world. And all I can say, is that it worth it !!!

Laura opened the show with a new song called "Lost". She wrote that song with Ben Williams, who is the guitarist of Kristyna Myles.

She also did 2 great covers. One of the song "Hey Ya !" by Outcast and one of "Rehab" by Amy Winehouse.

Laura also sang her first song "Mysterious Boy".

Laura's performance was really great. She did amazing show and she has a beautiful tone of voice. I would have love to listen to more of her songs and this show made me think about the fact that this girl gonna do great things in the years coming.

Sarah Swagger & The Middlemen - "No Regrets"

Few months ago, I already told you about Sarah Swagger whose I had the chance to see performing as the first part of Jc Villafan's show in Lyon last year. Sarah has started her solo career in 2012 and she has been working on her debut EP wich should be out in April 2013.

"Sarah Swagger creates pop music defined by her distinctive voice. Her catchy melodies are full of emotion, balancing sensitivity and energy, as well as heart-on-sleeve lyrics and dynamism. "

Meanwhile, her first single "No Regrets" is already available. You can even download it for free on her facebook page. I've been immediatly captivated by that song and I think you will too.

Lilly Wood and The Prick - "Middle Of The Night"

Lilly Wood & The Prick is a french band signed with the independent label Cinq7 and made up of Nili Hadida and Benjamin Cotto.

I'm not sure that a lot of people know this amazing band outside France. Their music is great mix of pop, folk and electro. After their second album "Invicible Friends", which had a great succes in France, they are back with a new album "The Fight" which will be out November 5th.

Today, they have posted a video of 2 of their new songs "Long Way Back" and "Middle Of The Night". These two songs, available on itunes, augur a fantastic album.

Oscar

Oscar is a french band from Mayenne in west of France and made up of Aurélie Fauque (vocals/songwriter) and Rodrigue Sérot (Piano).

I had the chance to see them performing yesterday evening in quite magical place, as the show was in the ruins of a gallo-roman theatre. I didn't knew them before but I've really appreciated their style of music. Oscar can be described as what we called here artist with texts. Each song of Oscar tell a story, sometimes tender, sometimes funny or a bit caustic.  Some of their songs reminds me another french singer, Olivia Ruiz, by the style of music and also the tone of voice.

It's the first time I present french artists who sing in french, so I hope you'll like it. Unfortunately their songs can only be listen on Myspace. Click here to go to their page.

Tiquetonne

Tiquetonne is a franco-danish duo made up of Gabriela Anna Cieploch (Lead vocals) and William Haddad (guitar, harmonica, ukulele, back vocals) and is based in Paris. Gabriela and Will met each other in 2005 when Garbiela spent a semester in the same school as Will for her studies. The band has been created 5 years later when Gabriela has been back in France.

Tiquetonne has been performing in some of great parisian venues. Tiquetonne's influences go from classical pop, rock, folk, jazz music. A debut EP should be out September, 22th. You have already the possibility to listen to it on soundcloud.

THis EP contains 5 great songs. The music style correspond quite well to the kind of music I like : a good voice accompgnied by a nice acoustic melody. I believe a good voice and a guitar are often enough to make great songs. I think you should appreciate this EP.
